Rev. Dr. C. Thankappan entered eternal glory on June 5th 2022 in Nagercoil. He is survived by his wife Dhayal Thankappan, two children and a daughter-in law. Dr. Thankappan has served Concordia Theological Seminary since 2005 and retired from the seminary on the 27th May 2022. During his tenure, he served the seminary as a professor and in different administrative capacities, including the vice-principal, dean of student life and Bursar.
Prior to coming to Seminary, in the IELC, Dr. Thankappan served as a church planter in Pettai, Tirunelveli Circle, Nagercoil Synod, and in Manimuthoor, Tirunelveli Circle, Nagercoil Synod, from 1985-8. He served as a Pastor at Peace Lutheran Church, Tirunelveli, Bethel Lutheran Church, Ganesapuram, and at Calvary Lutheran Church, Nagercoil, between 1989 and 2005.
Dr. Thankappan earned an M.A. from Annamalai University in 1990; and his M.Th. and D.Th. from the university of Serampore in 1995 and 2014 respectively. His doctoral dissertation was entitled, ‘The Spring of the Waters of Life to the Thirsty without Payment: Water Crisis and Commodification of Water in the Age of Globalization’.
