Opening of the Academic Year 2018-2019
The Ninety Fourth Academic session of Concordia Theological College Seminary started on 17th June 2018 with a re-opening Service. The chief guest for this occasion was Rev. Dr. Edward Naumann (LCMS Theological Educator for Asia). The worship service was led by the Principal, Rev. Dr. D. Christu Das. In his inaugural address, Dr. Naumann reminded the students the need to hold together both spiritual and academic aspects of ministerial training. This year we have ninety one students enrolled in the Bachelor Divinity program coming from different regional and linguistic backgrounds. The CTSN is committed to provide quality theological education to prepare pastors and deaconess who are doctrinally sound and contextually sensitive in an Indian context.
Chapel Renovation
The inauguration of the renovated chapel was also conducted during this occasion. The chief guest opened the renovated chapel for the seminary community. The renovation work helped the sixty six year old seminary chapel to receive new roof, new floor, new electric wiring and plastering to strengthen the walls. The chapel vestry and sacristy was provided with additional storage facilities. The altar portion was given a facelift and the walls received pastel colors. The Chapel can seat one hundred and twenty people. We are thankful to Rev. Ross Johnson and the LCMS disaster response department for their generous support which enabled us to renovate the Seminary Chapel.
Visiting Professors on Campus
The seminary community welcomed two visiting professors on campus. Rev. Dr. Edward Naumann offered an intensive course on the Augsburg Confession during the first week of the first Semester. During the second week, Rev. Brain Flamme offered a course on Christology in the Old Testament. Apart from Concordia Seminary student community, we had three pastors from Srilanka came to audit this course. We thank both the professors for their commitment towards theological education in India.
Leaders from Ceylon Evangelical Lutheran Church
The Concordia Theological Seminary was happy to receive four Sri Lankan pastors from the Ceylon Evangelical Lutheran Church who visited the seminary in June 2018. The Principal, Seminary faculty and the LCMS theological educator, Rev. Dr. Edward Naumann recognized the pastors from CELC and discussed with the Sri Lankan leaders the possibility of CELC and CTSN collaborating together in the area of theological education.
